Description

This is the untold story of the origins of Ursula, The Sea Witch from “The Little Mermaid”. The image of Ursula shows how she looked before and after her transformation. Here is Ursula’s tale:

Ursula, the Sea Witch’s Origins

Deep beneath the watery fathoms of the ocean is a secret realm of glistening majesty were the merpeople dwell in peaceful tranquility and King Nicanor reigns.

It was a momentous day for the king, who was bestowing upon his son Prince Triton the responsibility of the crown and the power of his stupor, the trident. It was also going to be decided who the prince would marry. There were three luck possible mermaids, but it would be determined which one by the merpeople once each of them has performed some type of talent.

Meanwhile, two mersister’s were headed to the castle for the festivities; they were also competing to become Prince Triton’s bride.
“Hurry up, Ursula! We are already late! We have missed the ceremony of the passing of the crown and trident! We cannot miss our names to be called when it’s our turn to perform!” Magnolia proclaimed, as she hurried her pace. Ursula sighed deeply and rolled her eyes, as two of her friends Flotsom and Jetsom a pair of electric eels, who were brothers, came out of hiding within a rock and swam around her.

“Hello, my pets.” Ursula purred affectingly, as they came to a stop in front of her face. Playfully she tickled them both under their chins, causing them to smile. But when Flotsom and Jetsom smiled, it was a malevolent type of sneer. “You better win that competition to become Triton’s bride, or the Master will be very displeased with you!” Flotsom and Jetsom declared together in harmony. “You let me worry about the Master! He does not scare me!” Ursula stated with conviction, as she tossed her long brunette hair about. “Besides, I have no doubts that I will be chosen as Triton’s bride.” Not having any more to say to the brothers, she quickly went on her way. What none of those three realized was that the Master had magically spied on them.

When Ursula arrived at the royal castle, the first mermaid competing to become Triton’s bride was had just finished. Flaminia had decided to showcase her talent of juggling. She must have been good for the crowd cheered.

“Next up is Magnolia who is going to sing for us.” Queen Cleora announced. Ursula’s mother, Naomi, deeply desired to discipline her daughter for being so late, but she withheld her tongue for the time being so she could hear her baby daughter perform. The whole time Magnolia was singing, their mother was beaming so proudly while tears of sheer joy rolling down her cheeks. Ursula was not impressed, for she did not think her sister was so great and sneered in contempt with her crossed arms the entire time. A booming applause erupted throughout the crowd the moment the last note of Magnolia’s soulful melody faded.

“Last to perform; is Ursula who is going to perform some magic.” Queen Cleora stated once the applause for Magnolia finally dissipated. Ursula swam to the center of the crowd and displayed some wonderful and fantastic feats of magic, that was certain to impressed the crowd and win her the chance of becoming Triton’s bride. Ursula took a triumphant bow when she completed her last bit of magic, but to her disappointment the crowd did not cheer as loud or long as they had for her sister Magnolia.

“Now, my fellow merpeople it is time for you to vote for who will my bride and queen. Shout out the name of my bride now!” Prince Triton announced, while the other two contestants joined Ursula in the center of the crowd.

“Magnolia!” Every merperson clearly shouted all at once. Ursula was fuming mad and silently vowed that she would make everyone pay. Naomi quickly urged her baby daughter by Prince Triton’s side, but it was really unnecessary for what no one knew was that Magnolia and Prince Triton had been secretly seeing each other and were hiding their love. Magnolia and Prince Triton dared not risk being discovered, for it was the tradition of the merfolk that the next king in line would have their bride chosen for them. So, both had been elated when they discovered that Magnolia was in competition to be Prince Triton’s bride and hoped that she would win.

The royal priest came forward and gave the about to be wed couple a reassuring smile. The priest could tell by the look in their eyes that there was nothing to worry about for their love for each other was clearly shining through.

“It is my joy and pleasure to join these two in holy matrimony.” The priest started the ceremony. Naomi assumed that Ursula would be by her little sister’s side at this joyous moment, but could not see her anywhere in sight.

Ursula had left the castle in an infuriated rage, after being cruelly rejected. To have her little baby sister selected only added insult to her bruised ego. Terrible, horrible, unthinkable thoughts plagued Ursula’s thoughts. Being in the frame of mind that she was in, Ursula was not thinking of her actions and hurried to the Master with malice intent boiling in her heart.

“Master!” Ursula bellowed the instant she entered his cavern. Only she was met with nothing but long endless silence. Ursula knew full well that the Master was there, but had just opted to refrain from sight. She was not about to be ignored and was determined to remain within this cavern until the Master decided to make his presence known. As the moments and hours went by, Ursula was becoming increasingly irate and was not going to stand this any longer. If the Master was not going to bother to make his presence known, then she would just have to make him appear. Ursula summed up every bit of her magical knowledge and commenced throwing lightning bolts from her slender finger tips. Suddenly, a large bright bubbling yellow light materialized before her.

“Ursula! You dare disturb me from my slumber; you better have an excellent reason!” The Master grumpily roared, while the yellow light flicked with his words.

“My baby sister Magnolia at this very moment is becoming Prince Triton’s bride and queen!” Ursula declared with venomous bile.

“I’ve perceived the deepest desires of your heart and let me assure you right here and now that I can make your desires become a very real possibility. Beware, Ursula, for if you choose to accept this gift that I’m prepared to offer you will come at a very high cost to you. Be sure this is what you truly want before you bluntly consent.” A malevolent snickering laughter followed, causing the bubbling light to dance with an almost joviality giddiness.

“I accept!” Ursula promptly shouted, for in her mind and heart she did not need to think of what the consequence could be. A bizarre sound enveloped Ursula’s senses, as a whirlwind of water spin rapidly around her that felt as if it would never cease. Only a few moments had passed when the whirlwind of water dissipated into nothingness, but Ursula was no longer a mermaid, she had been transformed into a half octopus. Her skin was now a pale blue, instead of the creamy peach that it had been and the long brunette locks were a purplish pinky hue. The Master’s sinister nature wanted Ursula to see what he had done to her, so he magically produced a full length mirror in her line of sight. Ursula was so horrified by her repugnant appearance that she lashed out at the Master. Only the Master was astounded by the sudden growth of her magically abilities and was shockingly demising his life-force to the brink of his extension. A cruel, wicked laughter rung out beyond the cavern all the way to the castle, were every one of the merpeople trembled with terror. None of them realized what evil had just been created and was now within their mist.

Four blissfully happy years had passed for King Triton and Queen Magnolia and have been blessed with seven beautiful daughters that the named Aquata, Andrina, Attina, Adella, Arista, Alana, and Ariel. Queen Magnolia was cradling her newest baby daughter Ariel in her arms, when she got a sudden unexpected visit from her long lost sister’s buddies Flotsom and Jetsom, the electric eel brothers.

“Your sister Ursula wishes to see you, but she request that you come alone and that you tell no one where you’re going or who you’re seeing.” Flotsom and Jetsom informed her in unison. Magnolia quickly kissed Ariel on her forehead, before placing her in the cradle of seaweed where she knew that she would be safe and Triton was sure to find her.
“Take me to her now!” Magnolia demanded, for she always wondered what had come of her big sister. The last time she had seen her was on that joyous day when she married Triton. The three of them swam for a long time, before they entered Ursula’s lair.

“Magnolia, my dear baby sister! How good it is to see you?” A raspy voice stated, but Magnolia could not see any one at first. Unexpectedly, a strange but almost familiar figured emerged out of the darkness. Magnolia gasped with terror at first seeing her. “Don’t you recognize your big sister?” Ursula said while wrapping her tentacles about her.

“Ursula?” Magnolia quizzically inquired, for she could not believe that this was her big sister. “What has happened to you?” A sinister laughter erupted from Ursula’s lips, as she began to squish Magnolia with her long powerful tentacles.

“It is because of you that I’ve become the sea witch that is now before you! The carefree mermaid that I once was, you eradicated the moment you were chosen to be Triton’s bride! Now, any poor unfortunate souls that come across my path will pay dearly! Dear baby sister, you are the first to feel my wrath!” Ursula wickedly declared, all the while squishing Magnolia until she breathed her last breath of life.
